On November 11, 1977, senior student, Chris Jorstad, was killed in a traffic accident and her death was impetus in creating the scholarship fund. The first year, the faculty and staff served over 585 individuals to raise money for the scholarship. Then in 1978, a former teacher, Betty Gilbertson, passed and her husband designated the Faculty/Staff Scholarship fund for the memorial. Following this memorial, two more families designated the Faculty/Staff Scholarship for the memorial to help raise funds for the scholarship. In about 1979, the AFS Chapter gifted the Faculty/Staff Scholarship a donation to be used for the scholarship with a few terms agreed upon by the NCHS faculty and staff. Since the scholarship began, the faculty and staff of NCHS have held a BBQ to help raise funds to be gifted to a senior student each year.

Each year, depending on the amount of money earned with our Faculty/Staff Scholarship BBQ Fundraiser, we always plan to give one student a gift of $1,000. An additional $500 will be given depending on the amount raised. Please come out to support our scholarship fundraiser!
