High School Musical: On Stage

Performance Dates:
April 16, 17 & 18, 6:00PM
Newark Community High School's theatre program performed Guys and Dolls on April 16, 17 and 18, 2026 at 6pm.

Welcome to 1950s New York!

First set in 1950, the Tony Award-winning Guys and Dolls is a Golden Age Broadway classic that has truly stood the test of time. Its lasting appeal comes in large part from its sharp comedic moments, big dance numbers, and irresistibly catchy songs. What makes it enduring, however, is how all of that spectacle is balanced by a genuine heart beneath the surface.

At its core, this show is about taking chances. Whether it's stepping outside your comfort zone, rethinking long-held beliefs, or finally committing to something—or someone—each character is given the opportunity to grow. Some resist it, some embrace it, and some stumble their way there, but all of them remind us that change is rarely easy and never predictable.

This year, as directors, we made the decision to present the students with a show we knew they were likely unfamiliar with. From the very beginning, Guys and Dolls challenged them in new and exciting ways, and over the past four months we have been continually impressed by their willingness to dive in headfirst. They have embraced the style, humor, and heart of this classic musical, bringing focus, energy, and creativity to every rehearsal. We are so proud of them and cannot wait to see them shine on stage.

Thank you for supporting the arts in our school and celebrating the voices of young performers.

Enjoy the show!
